Restoration
Bringing a thing forward without pretending it was never hurt.
It clusters with furniture, buildings, and the conservation ethics of reversible repair.
Restorers keep a record of what they did, which is a kind of history written in the object.
On an Interest Map, the line we most often letter beside restoration reads “repair that leaves a record.” It tends to meet furniture repair, architecture, and conservation.
