Field note
What a through-line is
One paragraph under the chart. A hypothesis about the plot, small enough to test.
Mark Savickas, in Career Counseling (2019), treats a working life as a story a person is already telling, often without a title. The through-line on an Interest Map is our short version of that idea. It is one paragraph. It names a pattern across the stations you gave us. It is meant to be readable out loud.
A useful through-line is humble. “You keep returning to how people become who they are” can be checked against a Tuesday. “You were born to heal the culture” cannot. If the sentence survives contact with your actual week, keep it. If it flatters you, throw it out and look at the labeled lines instead.
Level four of the quiz gives the paragraph more private material: a room, a habit, a year you would study. That is why later levels change the wording. The first map is allowed to be coarse. You can download it anyway.
