A fair word on multipotentialite

Emilie Wapnick named a real experience. The word is not a career plan.

Emilie Wapnick’s TED talk and book put “multipotentialite” into circulation for people with many serious interests. The relief in the word is real. A lot of career advice assumes one apex and treats the rest as distraction. If your map has several live clusters, you are allowed to stop apologizing for the second one.

The word does not tell you how to pay rent. Holland’s neighboring types are more practical here. Interests that sit near each other can share a week. Interests that sit far apart may need a job and a practice, with an honest calendar. Wapnick’s own advice tends toward projects that braid two fields. That is close to what our overlap careers try to name.

Use the identity if it steadies you. Then go back to the chart and pick one line to test for a month. Many interests are a description. One experiment is a plan.
