Field note
The botanical plate
A tree of practices, with the through-line as the ground it grows from.
The botanical style draws interests as a specimen plate: a trunk, branches for clusters, leaves for stations. It suits people whose attention really does branch, and it suits material practices, gardens, natural history, teaching.
A tree implies a single trunk. That metaphor is the risk. If your life is two trees, the picture will still try to root them. Read the through-line. If it forces a unity you do not feel, switch to the subway style, where two lines can run in parallel and only transfer where they truly do.
Pressed ferns and old plates are the visual ancestors. The labels are still your words. Nothing on the sheet is decoration you did not supply, except the rules and the grain.
